Zentangle Patterns Explained
1) direct line
Start with the zentangle method, draw the dots, join them to make a border or a square, and start to tangle it. Draw 4 horizontal lines with the same difference in width between them. Draw diamond shapes that move vertically, connecting with the horizontal lines. They should have 4 lines of diamonds across the width of the square.
You can have full diamond shapes in one and in the next you can start with an inverted triangle. Shade the inside of the diamonds with a dark shade. Lightly shade the remaining white parts to make it look like grayish nail polish, darken the edges of the square for a fuller color palette.
2) black box
As the name suggests, you will be drawing boxes inside the square. Draw the square dome using the zentangle method and draw lines inside the square to form boxes. Make sure the lines appear as double lines. Shade the inside of the 16 boxes very dark, in the end you should have a dark surface with vertical and horizontal double lines. For a final touch, shade the intersection of the line with the same dark shade and you're done.
3) black-eyed beans
Starting like the zentangle method, once you get to the square step, start drawing bean-like shapes on the square, filling in every inch of the space. All beans should have a distinctive black spot. Shade the bean glaze-like shapes with a lighter shade of pencil. All ready!
4) blooming butter
With the same resources, start to get entangled. Draw short double lines from the center of a point. You can have 3 points on the paper. Where the 4 double lines intersect, draw a similar small shape, secure the top of the lines with an inward curve. Do the same with the other flower zentangles. Shadow, the interior of the flowers, lighter with the initial lines with a darker tone.
5) Ties
Gather your resources and start designing. Start with your square and start shading. Draw vertical lines and horizontal lines to make a quadrant, then smaller lines to make about 16 smaller squares. At all other intersections draw a circle, you should have 4 circles by the end of this step. Then in the middle of the square, which should be empty, draw a diamond. Continue to the top intersection with the edges of the square, there should be 9 diamond shapes with the ones on the edge looking like triangles.
If you look closely at the shapes you have, they should be circles, but with sharp edges. Start coloring opposite sides of the circle, leaving the dark and white parts all over. Each quadrant should have 6 dark dots and 6 white dots for equality. After that, you can lightly shade a few white pieces on the square. To your liking, of course, when you're done, you'll have finished drawing the zentangle of the bow ties.
6) BTI Josh
Start with you a sheet of paper and apencil, draw the points, limit and get the square. Draw 2 curved lines from one corner to the other, as if you were drawing a river going up or down. Then draw small lines that enclose the lines so that you can have a segmented river. Draw another stream from the opposite side so that it intersects somewhere on the bottom side near the base of the square.
Now start shading other segments of the hypothetical river. Do this on both lines. On the dark-toned sections, draw curls that come off the edge. Like a curly hair, do this on both sides of the river. Shade the curls with a lighter shade of pencil for an artistic feel, you're all set.
7) Bucky
With a sheet of paper and pencil, draw border lines for art, form vertical and horizontal lines to create 16 boxes in the square. Align the shapes moving inwards as if to form an internal web. Start shading, you can only add small touches to the line, but nothing dark, as this will interrupt the pattern. All ready!
8) Flashlight bulb
Starting with your role andpencil,Start by drawing small orbits on paper. Like the globe, or onion bulbs, but smaller. You can draw up to 3 of them. 10) Centrifuge
With your usual resources, draw your square and start tangling. Draw 2 diagonal lines and other smaller lines inside the square to make a slanted square inside the square. You should have a square box with 4 quadrants. In each quadrant, draw a smaller square inside it, and then draw a circle inside the smaller square. On the circle again, place a small bow underneath like a smiley face. Web out of the first square box. The remaining spaces that remain. Now shade the central area between the circle and the second square. Lightly shade the lines that form webs on the outside, moving towards the inner circle. You can also darken the shadow of the first square to show where all the artwork started.

With the zentangle method, draw points, borders and the square. Now draw diagonal lines in each square to have triangles. Shade the diagonal lines you drew first with a dark shade, and shade the center of the other lines with a lighter shade. Don't overdo any of the squares or you'll ruin the pattern. All ready.

In circular designs, you can place a small vertical or horizontal line. Shading is optional. All ready!
13) Corner box
Starting with a sheet of paper andpencil drawto the square. Then draw horizontal and vertical lines across the square to form smaller squares. Now draw inverted circles in each square. For each semicircle, draw lines of radius. Start shading the inside of the ray lines for more color. Do not touch the remaining white parts. All ready!
14) Cube
Starting with the zentangle method, draw a square and lines in the box to form 4 quadrants. Now add more vertical and horizontal lines to form equally small squares in the square. Then draw little boxes on the edge of each box, preferably on the bottom left edge of each box. Shade the small boxes inside the larger box. Draw a straight line from the shaded box to the edge of the larger box, as if you were dividing it into a triangle.
