Why we develop readers keep reading
Annotations should be the main feature of digital reading. Instead, highlights, bookmarks, and notes are neglected in other reading apps.
We believe annotations are the key to getting more out of what you read. That's why we developed highlighting as a first-class feature. Highlight images, tables, rich text and more. On any device.
Readwise has completely redesigned the Read-it-later app. It's beautiful and lightning fast. In many ways, it's the superhuman thing about reading: you won't want to read anywhere else.
I spend all day reading, researching, and writing, and Readwise is the reading tool I've been waiting for. The perfect complement to my writing workflow. Absolute game changer.

I used to put links in pocket but never went back. The reader changes that. Now I feel above my reading. Also, the implementation speed of the Readwise team is insane.
Reader makes it easy to manage all the content that comes my way. I am no longer overwhelmed. Now I feel like I have enough time to read everything I want to read.
Readwise is one of my favorite products of the last 5 years. The reader takes it to the next level. I no longer have to tape 7 different tools together. Readwise simply skipped the status quo.
Our late-reader apps should get better with time. Instead, they get worse. Because? Because we save more things than we have time to spend on them.
We fell for Superhuman's fun and playful take on cluttering up our email inboxes. So we built the same for reading. Weed your digital garden with joy.
We call this release a "Public Beta" because the product surface area is huge. We basically built five different kinds of reading apps at the same time without accidentally building the software equivalent to a fork. In the meantime, we needed to make sure the app would work well in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, as well as iOS and Android. Hopefully the "Public Beta" tag will give us some leeway over the next few months as we look for new special cases 🙂
Once Reader officially leaves beta sometime in 2023, we plan to adjust the price of Readwise/Reader for new subscribers thereafter. Pricing is really difficult and complex, so to be honest, we haven't figured out the exact plans yet. However, we do not intend to increase prices for existing full subscribers at this time. That means if you subscribe to Reader while Reader is in beta, you get lifetime access for $7.99/month (billed annually) on our current Readwise Full plan.
Yeah! Reader is available for iOS and Android, as well as a first local web app. The entire experience is cross-platform, which means all data is continuously synced between all your devices. Note that "local web first app" does not refer to a native app that you install on your computer, but you can install the app as a Chrome app or with a Safari wrapper for a native experience.
Yeah! You can import your existing library to read later from Instapaper, Pocket, and a handful of others. You can also import your existing RSS feeds from other feed readers using OPML.
For now, you can think of Reader as just another reading app that integrates with Readwise (although without a problem because they share a database). Any highlighting you create in Reader is instantly synced to Readwise, and then from Readwise to your note-taking apps. Over time, the vision is to create a unified experience between Readwise and Reader within Reader. Regardless, if you have a Readwise Full plan, you get access to both apps.
